Day 20

Was so happy to see my OD today and his staff. He's been out of the country lecturing and this is the first time I've seen him since surgery. Everyone was super excited to see me and the results. It made me especially happy because everyone who has seen me thus far are friends and family. No one can appreciate the talent of surgeon in combination with the talent of my orthodontist in combination with my crazy terrible bite like professionals;) Besides, we've all taken this long journey together and it's so satisfying to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

And he let me go without rubber bands, which have been in and unchanged since surgery... Woohoo!!

This is how big I can open without rubber bands!

    1. Thanks Rhianna:) I am very happy with the results and am so grateful the swelling has gone down so quickly. No it's just waiting for the numbness!

  2. That is amazing!!! No rubber bands!!!
Okay how is it that you can open your mouth that wide? I still struggle to open a couple mm without rubber bands on. I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow so hopefully he can explain why my jaw has seized up so much.
You look beautiful! It's amazing how fast your swelling has gone down and how great your smile looks so soon after surgery.

Hello! I have been following your progress. Thank you for being so willing to share with pics, etc. It sounds as if you are back to work. Can you tell me how your speech is at this point? Are you speaking clearly? Is speech comfortable?

I will be having surgery in February and am wondering what a realistic expectation is for taking time off work. My surgeon is recommending I take 6 weeks off for recovery but will clear me when I say I am ready. I work with children and language development so speaking is what I do at work. I would love your thoughts if you have time to respond.

I appreciate any responses from others who might read this.

Hope you are feeling well today.

    1. Hi Nerissa:) Thanks for following. I went back to work at 2 weeks and 1 day. My first two days (a Thurs and Fri) were not full days and by Monday I felt good about going full time. I am able to speak pretty clearly - not perfect, but better than passable. I'm better on the phone than in person. My mouth is still pretty numb, but I've been VERY lucky. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I've been talking A LOT since surgery. If your business is children and speaking, maybe take a full 3 or 4 weeks. Here's a link to a blog by Tom, who works in speech therapy as well. He had surgery a couple months ago. http://thatonlyamothercouldlove.blogspot.com/

I'll try to make a video tonight so you can see what 3 weeks post surgery looks like!

      Good luck!!

    2. Thank you for the link and info. I don't see the surgeon again until January so I am officially obsessed with blogs to fill the "I need to know.."
