Mirror, mirror

I mentioned in an earlier post that I started a new job around the new year. My office is on the 17th floor... it's a good long ride...the elevator doors are HIGHLY reflective.

I realized today that every single time I get into the elevator and the doors shut, I step right up to them and examine my teeth. It also occurred to me that there are definitely cameras in the elevators. I just wonder what the security people must think?! "There goes that lunatic smiling at herself... again."

The photos below were hastily taken with the knowledge that there was someone at the video screen monitors, probably muttering "Now she's taking pictures of herself..."

  1. Ahahahah....I love this post!!! I'm not the only braces checker in the elevator who wonders about that little camera in the corner!! ;)

  2. That is hilarious! I also look at my teeth in most reflective things. Might as well give the watchers something interesting to see, their job can't be very exciting!

  3. Lol, thanks ladies. Isn't it crazy how often we are compelled to look at our braces? I sometimes find myself checking them out in my car's rear-view mirror when I'm stopped at a red light. As if they they've moved from the last time I checked.... 20 minutes earlier... in the elevator:(

  5. I've only had my braces for just under three weeks but I seriously think I've looked at every mirror within ten feet of me...

  7. LOL, I love it! We all do this and I'm glad to see that you were brave enough to post about it. Just wait till after your surgery.....the compulsion to look in mirrors gets stronger (it did for me, anyway). I went from obsessively looking in mirrors to see if my teeth moved (right after braces went on), to only checking for stuck food (because I was sooooooo over my braces and my teeth weren't noticeably moving after 4 months), and now I'm always looking at my teeth (especially in my car's rear-view mirror) with a neurotic track running through my head: "Wow, front teeth meet! Top teeth close over bottom teeth! How much swelling is left in my face? Must be a lot because my laugh lines haven't returned yet. How much is the numbness in my upper lip/face affecting my smile? Will it change in the end? Is that one tooth crooked or is it my imagination?" Make it stoooooooooooop!

  8. Hi Amanda- I just noticed that your orthodontist is in California and your OS is in NH. That's a long distance away. Are you planning on traveling to NH for the surgery? What about follow up appointments and stuff?

  9. Hi Laura, It's not a typo, it's a bit insane. My orthodontist will only send patients to two surgeons. One is Dr. Wolford in Dallas (who's one of the best and mostly sees patients who travel to him) and the other is Dr. Henry in New Hampshire. (Dr. Henry trained under Dr. Wolford). Anyway, only one of these doctors is 'in network'. Sadly, it's the one 3000 miles away. I will fly a few days before surgery and will stay at least two weeks after. I know I'll end up having to fly back for a follow up at some point, but the immediate checkups will have to be handled by my orthodontist. I actually have an appointment today, I will ask.
