The first step is always the hardest. In the orthognathic blog world, it seems airing one's "dirty laundry" or rather posting close-up pictures of your bite, is that step. It's something we are always aware of when meeting new people, seeing old friends, passing a mirror and of course, looking at photos. (I know I always censor photos posted on facebook!) So, for the sake of healing, here are my current pics!
i had jaw surgery and i am telling u go for it but u should know that it isnt easy but its worth it
ReplyDeletethanks. i have to admit, i'm a little nervous after reading about all of you who have had surgery in the last couple of weeks. everyone seems pretty miserable:( but, i'm not deterred, i'm still gonna go for it. the idea of having a proper bite and an open airway is too good to pass up!
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteSo, when do you get your braces on? Very funny picture of the dog with braces...I actually had to take a close look to see if this was real!
It is great to hear that you dad went with you to your 3rd consultation - his knowledge is priceless!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
Brent
Brent, Thanks for following! My OD wants me to get my molars out before I get my braces. The molars are coming out in the next few weeks. SO, HOPEFULLY by the end of July. Just about the time of your surgery I think! It's great that you got a sleep study done. I luckily don't have sleep apnea either, but do have a severely small airway. I'm grateful to have an OD and OS (and dad) aware of that and will take care to make sure it is GREATLY improved after surgery. I've been told breathing is good:) Last question, are you happy with metal? I'm figure I'm getting braces, I might as well really go for it with metal. Thanks again for commenting and following.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteThe metal braces work for me..but I choose those because I think the white ones would have cost me more. I have been told that the white ones stain pretty easy (wine, coffee etc.). If I were given a choice again, and the cost were the same, I would have picked white, but either choice doesn't really hide the fact that I have braces!
Ouch on getting the molars pulled. Are they wisdom or just "extras" if there is ever such a thing?
I too have been told that this surgery improves airway, so that will be a great thing for you! Doing it while you are young is the best thing to do (quality of life)!!
Enjoy that California sun!!(I use to live in Whittier and Big Bear)
Cheers,
Brent
Hmm. I may have to rethink my enthusiasm for metal... My wisdom teeth (3rd molars) are all up, fine and no need to extract. It's my impacted, weird, extra 4th molars that need to be removed.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, our discolored teeth look exactly the same!! I had forgotten exactly how yours looked and came back to your blog to see. It really looks quite similar, mine was a bit darker on the upper half than the lower half, but still the same problem. It is nice to know there is someone who can relate to that problem!
