It was a pretty painless appt. It took about 45 min. The most painful part was sitting in the waiting room with all the kids before they called me in. I know I'll get over it bc my favorite part was when I asked the 12 year old in the chair next to me if he thought baby blue (ligatures) was a good color. He did.
I have to admit, it was a little shocking looking into the mirror for the first time. I feel like I'm 14! As soon as I got over the initial horror (took about 5 minutes) I was able to let my excitement take over. I can't believe I am ACTUALLY starting this journey!!! I was thrilled when Dr. Hang finished our appointment with "let's get you to surgery as soon as we can."
I do have to go back to him in two weeks for more separators. My right side is very stubborn, he was only able to put one band on each the lower and upper right, bc everything was still so tight.
can't wait till #8&9 move down.
Glad your braces journey has officially begun! I agree its a bit weird sitting with the kids in the waiting room, at least they approved your color choice...lol. Best of luck to you :)
ReplyDeleteHey congratulations on getting your braces!! Your journey through all of this is just beginning!!! I am glad to hear that your teeth/jaws did not hurt when they put them on! I am shocked that it only took 45 minutes to get your braces on though, I have had two sets of braces and they took at least double that both times, the second time might have even been triple. I sat in that chair for hours while they fitted and bonded the 8 bands to my molars.
ReplyDeleteI love your "tin grin!" just think how fantastic everything will look when this is all
over!! Good luck with everything and I agree baby blue is a good color!
So thrilled for you :):)
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda -
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you!! Your journey has begun!! Do you feel like you have a bunch of marbles in your mouth?
Great pictures!
Cheers to you!
Brent
Amanda,
ReplyDeleteYAY! You are on your way, girl! I'm so excited for you. Can't wait to read your progress posts.
Here's to a joyous jaw journey....lol!
Thanks all! I am EXCITED. And still giggling when I look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteJamie, I can tell you that my OD and the OA worked like a machine when 'installing' my brackets. The bands did take some time, since my teeth were still so tight. But it seemed that when it was time for the brackets, the OA kept feeding them to Dr. Hang. That was the quickest part.
Brent, I feel like I have two kitchen tables attached to my teeth. It's very bizarre.
I have learned to carry around lip balm and a toothbrush. I was in the grocery store last night and someone in produce was cutting up peaches for customers. I took one and 'thought' i had cleared all the debris w/my tongue, but of course when i got in the car i looked in the mirror and it seemed as if the entire peach slice was sitting atop my bracket! oy.
My last thought: flossing IS MOST DEFINITELY a PAIN IN THE ASS.
yay!
Hi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteHoraaaay for braces! Only someone NOT of teenage years can truely feel this way, eh? Glad you are on your way. I love the powder blue color, it looks so clean. I may have to try that next.
Then next few weeks you will become quite attached to your lip balm, advil, toothbrush, and wax (or gooshie-goo which is the bomb if you have access to some). But eventually, your mouth will calm down and the only real annoyances will be brushing and flossing.
I'm sorry to report, one year later, flossing still sucks!!!!! I am not nearly as diligent as I should be :(
Smiles,
Nichole
Amanda!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! The beginning is great, and I'm super glad your physicians are saying they are trying to get it done in a timely manner. Trust me nothing is worse than uncooperative Dr.'s. I agree the baby blue looks very nice, I've never had colors but since I'm out I might do some just for fun :). Glad to hear things are going well!
Niki :)
Amanda, you look adorable! You are on your way! Maybe we'll end up having surgery around the same time... It would be nice to have a partner. Have they given you any estimate of how long you'll need braces before?
ReplyDeleteLadies (and Brent) thanks for all the love! @Nicole, I just ordered some gishy goo from amazon! I made the mistake of forgetting my little bag of goodies at home today (wax, toothbrush, etc) and the wax I had put on before I left came off - amateur move! @Ellie, it would be GREAT if we were going in around the same time. My OD told me 6-8 months, but I suspect it will be 8. I really am convinced my teeth are slow moving. 1 - my separators didn't do the job on one side and 2 - I'm not in that much pain right now. More to be revealed at my next appt!!!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, you are on your way! I'm jealous, makes me wish mine were on already. Has it took you long to get used to them? And I LOVE the baby blue, I hope they give me a colour choice! Haha :)
